PHOTOGRAPHS
HOW MANY PHOTOS ARE ON THIS PAGE
Three. There are three. There will always be three. Every photograph I own from
after 2004 was taken by somebody who was not supposed to have a camera, and the ones that were taken
properly belong to a filing cabinet in Virginia that I am not going to describe further.
Please do not e-mail asking for "any others." There are no others. If
there were others they would not be mine to give you, and the fact that I have to phrase it that way
should tell you which of those two things is true.
FIG. 1 — VEHICLE COMMANDER'S SEAT

This is the last photograph of me taken by a person who was allowed to take photographs of me.
Note the date burned into the corner in yellow. That date is wrong. It is off by a number of
years that I am not going to give you, because giving you the error means giving you the correction,
and the correction is the part that matters.
I have been asked why I do not simply crop it off. Two reasons. One, I do not know how to do that on
this computer and Sherri's nephew only comes at Christmas. Two, and this is the real one: it is the
only wrong date I have ever been handed that I am allowed to leave standing in public, and I find that
I enjoy it.
The man walking behind my door has been cleared for release. He is fine. He sells insurance now and
he is very good at it.

I am loading a can here. That is what I am going to say about this day and I would ask you to accept
that, because the alternative is that I say a second sentence and then a third, and I know exactly
where that road ends.
What I will say is that this photograph was taken about ninety seconds after something and about
four minutes before something else, and that if you look at my hands you can see that they are steady,
and that this is the single thing on this entire website I am actually proud of.
The photo was taken by a man I am going to call DENNIS. That is not his name. His name is
Dennis. I have thought about this and I do not believe I have compromised anything, because there are
a great many Dennises.
He is not with us. That is all.

FIG. 3 — AUTHOR PHOTOGRAPH, 2025

This is the cover image. Sherri shot it in the garage against a bedsheet with a camera she bought
at a pawn shop in Hastings for the purpose. It took four hours. We had one real argument during it and
it was not about the photo.
The left half is a re-creation. I want to be honest about that, because if I am not honest about the
small things then I am asking you to take my word on the large ones for no reason. That is not the
plate carrier I wore. That is not the helmet I wore. That is not a street I was ever on.
The face is the face. The face is not a re-creation. You cannot re-create that and it would be
insulting to try.

For completeness. Each of these exists. None of these are coming down off the wall.
